What do we have to offer?
Both the legal department and Tax department legal capability within Koch Industries are searching for legal interns for Summer 2023! Break down below:
Legal Department are searching for 4 Intern:
- 2 of these positions will be based out of the Georgia-Pacific HQ in Atlanta, GA, and 2 of these positions will be based out of the Koch Industries HQ in Wichita, KS.
Our Legal Departments provide legal services across all subject matters and consist of lawyers with a broad range of specialties from corporate law, mergers & acquisitions, litigation, internal investigations, labor & employment, environmental health & safety, and intellectual property.
Due to the collective size and scale of Koch companies, our legal professionals have the ability to learn and practice a variety of disciplines. Assigned work and observation opportunities will vary based on emerging events during the time of internship and appropriate subject matter. All projects will be under the supervision of an attorney and may offer exposure to the following types of work and projects:
- Legal research and writing memos – delving into a particular legal issue or topic (e.g., applicability of a regulation to a particular business or facility, review of state or local ordinance, review of enforcement developments and other emerging issues)
- Assist with writing briefs, motions, and regulatory submissions
- Assist with discovery document review
- Provide support during mergers & acquisitions. Examples include assisting with due diligence, disclosure and other schedules, researching issues, review of agreements
- Attend business and client meetings. Assist with meeting preparation and collaborate with supervising attorney on ideas, concepts and issues
- Draft/revise various agreements (i.e., confidential disclosure, supply, vendor, license)
Tax department legal capability are searching for 1 intern:
- This position will be based out of Koch Industries HQ in Wichita, KS.
- This capability provides legal services related to corporate governance, transactions and tax law to all of Koch’s businesses around the world.
Assigned work and observation opportunities will vary based on emerging events during the time of internship, but will ultimately relate to corporate or tax law. All projects will be under the supervision of an attorney and may offer exposure to the following types of work and projects:
- Assist the supervising attorney with executing legal aspects of approved internal restructuring transactions, including drafting, review and execution of documents
Legal research and writing memos – delving into a particular legal issue or topic (e.g., applicability of a law or regulation to a particular business, review of local requirements to form new companies, and other emerging issues)
- Assist with drafting certificates, operating agreements and other legal documents
- Review various types of contracts and agreements from a legal perspective
- Engage with external US and international counsel at the direction of internal counsel
- Provide support with corporate governance compliance. Examples include understanding annual filing requirements, assisting with foreign qualifications and analyzing local disclosure requirements
- Attend business and client meetings. Assist with meeting preparation and collaborate with supervising attorney on ideas, concepts and issues

- Applicants must be current 1L year students; rising 2L by Summer 2023, at the time of internship

- Ability to apply economic thinking to legal concepts and analysis
- Legal Department: Interest in in-house practice – prior corporate experience (either in a business or legal role) is preferred though not required
- Tax Department: Interest in corporate or tax practice – prior experience (either in a business or legal role) is preferred though not required
- 3.3 GPA or above or considered top 30% of the class
